2020 Barrel Select Cuvee Santa Ynez Valley

Another strong vintage of this reserve wine with similar proportions to the 2019 vintage, this Syrah-dominated blend with Mourvedre and Grenache shows great depth and richness from the hot vintage. Dark Syrah fruit and spices dominate the aromas, while the Mourvedre and Grenache add energy and complexity to the flavor profile that shows dark fruits, chocolate, pepper, violet, and roasted herbs. Broad and long on the palate, the 2020 should drink great for the next 15+ years.

    The 2019 Red Wine Cuvee is ample, dark and expres­sive. Black cher­ry, plum, spice, game, new leather, licorice and choco­late all open with a bit of coax­ing. The 2019 offers ter­rif­ic depth and res­o­nance as builds towards its sub­stan­tial fin­ish. The blend is 48% Syrah, 27% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre.

    The 2019 Cuvee Red Bar­rel Select checks in as 57% Syrah, 28% Grenache, and the rest Mourvè­dre. It’s anoth­er sol­id release from this estate, reveal­ing a deep­er ruby/​purple hue to go with plen­ty of black and blue fruits as well as pep­pery herbs, under­brush, and san­dal­wood-like nuances. Tex­tured, medi­um to full-bod­ied, and mouth-fill­ing, it has pol­ished tan­nins, a good sense of fresh­ness, and a great fin­ish. It’s cer­tain­ly an out­stand­ing wine that will evolve for upwards of a decade.
