2022 Summer Wine Release
Posted: Sep 22, 2022
We are releasing five new wines to our winery members this quarter, three of which are produced in extremely limited quantities and are only available directly from our Los Olivos winery. Two of the new wines are usually produced in larger quantities and is available in distribution across the country.
The five wines are first shared exclusively with our members and are then made available to the general public the following quarter. These exceptional, small production wines often sell out quickly, so joining will ensure your allotment.
These are the five wines we released to our members in September 2022:
2021 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Grenache Blanc
A very cool vintage brought a different style of Grenache Blanc in 2021. Laser sharp and focused, the 21 is highlighted by green apple, lime, lychee, and peppery aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with great mouthfeel, the acid takes the focus on the back end of the wine, finishing long and juicy. The wine is drinking beautifully now and will drink nicely for the next 3 – 5 years.
Drink: 2022 — 2027 | 100 Cases Produced | Ballard Canyon AVA
Retail: $36

2021 Santa Ynez Valley Grenache
A cool vintage brought a serious, complex vintage of the SYV Grenache. Intriguing flavors of raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, white pepper, and garrigue are concentrated and intense. The wine is bold and round in the mouth with some serious tannins that structure the wine nicely and help carry the flavors on the long finish. This is a very impressive vintage of the SYV Grenache that should be enjoyed over the next decade.
Drink: 2022 — 2037 | 750Cases Produced | Santa Ynez Valley AVA
Retail: $38
2020 Barrel Select Cuvee
Another strong vintage of this reserve wine with similar proportions to the 2019 vintage, this Syrah-dominated blend with Mourvedre and Grenache shows great depth and richness from the hot vintage. Dark Syrah fruit and spices dominate the aromas, while the Mourvedre and Grenache add energy and complexity to the flavor profile that shows dark fruits, chocolate, pepper, violet, and roasted herbs. Broad and long on the palate, the 2020 should drink great for the next 15+ years.
Drink: 2022 — 2042 | 450 Cases Produced | Santa Ynez Valley AVA
2020 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Syrah Clone #1
The very warm weather during the 2020 season brought a ripe vintage of the Clone 1. Planted in some deep clay and limestone, which helped offset the heat and drought, this block was one of the highlights of the vintage, delivering an outstanding Syrah Clone 1. Smoke, game, blackberry, plum, and chocolate highlight the aromas and flavors of this vintage, showing nice lift (even in this hot vintage), round, smooth texture, and a long finish with very fine tannins. Drink this vintage now and over the next 15 years.
Drink: 2022 — 2042 | 330 Cases Produced | Ballard Canyon AVA
Retail: $73
2020 EXP Syrah Rosé
Made from some older Syrah vines at the winery estate, this wine is the perfect rosé to drink at the end of the summer heading into the fall. Darker and richer than our Grenache Rose, this fun wine has good depth and richness with a nice floral edge to the cherry, lime, and peppery flavors and aromas. Drink this wine now and over the next 2 – 3 years.
Drink: 2022 — 2025 | 75 Cases Produced | Los Olivos AVA
Retail: $34
This wine is only available to our EXP members. Please call 805−688−8664 ext. 210 to purchase or register for this upgrade.
