Slow Wine 2019: A year in the Life of Slow Wine
Posted: Apr 30, 2019
Slow Food is an international, grassroots association founded in Italy in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, and how our food choices affect the world around us. Here’s a little about the organization and their annual winery guide:
“Wine is an agricultural product, just like any of the foods we eat, and has an impact on the lives of the people who produce it, as well as on the environment – through pesticides, herbicides and excessive water consumption which are all commonplace in conventional wine production.
Through our guide and international tour, we support and promote small-scale Italian winemakers who are using traditional techniques, working with respect for the environment and terroir, and safeguarding the incredible biodiversity of grape varieties that are part of Italy’s heritage.
The annual Slow Wine guide adopts a new approach to wine criticism, taking into consideration the wine quality, adherence to terroir, value for money and environmental sensitivity.”
In September 2018, they interviewed our winemaker Steve Beckmen about his biodynamic winegrowing and winemaking philosophy for the 2019 USA edition. We were honored to be included in this publication and want to share our listing with you:
