Sangiovese Returns to our Portfolio After 25 Years
Posted: Feb 25, 2021
After 25 years, we are thrilled to bring Sangiovese back into our portfolio with the very limited release of the 2018 Santa Ynez Valley Sangiovese. Only 225 cases were produced, and since we last bottled this wine back in 1996, you’ll have to act fast to enjoy this wine.
Sangiovese has been grown in the Santa Ynez Valley for decades and has found real success in a few select hillside vineyards located between Ballard Canyon and Los Olivos District. Our 2018 SYV Sangiovese was sourced from Mira Laguna Vineyard, located just above the town of Ballard above Alamo Pintado Road. Mira Laguna Vineyard has been organically farmed since its inception in 1998, and we are thrilled to work with their outstanding fruit. Blended with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Thomas and Judith Beckmen Estate Vineyard, the 2018 SYV Sangiovese is both complex and delicious.
Tasting Notes
Dried herbs, cherry, anise, and hints of tobacco highlight the complex aromas of this wine. The mouth is smooth, round, and ready to drink now with flavors of sweet plums, cherry, coco, vanilla, and licorice that are framed by balanced acidity and fine tannins. The wine has great length on the finish where the flavors continue to linger. The wine is drinking great now and will continue to age well for the next decade.
