2019 Winter Wine Releases
Posted: Feb 9, 2019
We release four new wines every a quarter. The wines are first shared with our Wine Club members, and then available to the general public the following quarter. Sharing our wines for the first time after the years of hard work and dedication is exciting, and we hope you enjoy drinking them as much as we enjoyed crafting them! These are the four wines we released in February 2019:
2017 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Chardonnay
Bright, lively, and loaded with apple, spices, mineral, and citrus aromas and flavors; the 2017 vintage is a tremendous success for our Chardonnay program. Coming from a milder vintage, the wine has stunning precision, depth, a laser sharp focus of fruit, and a mouthfeel that we only hoped to achieve when we grafted this 3.76 acre block seven years ago. Crafted from 100% certified Biodynamic Chardonnay grapes.
- Drink: 2019 — 2030
- Cases Produced: 336
- AVA: Ballard Canyon
2017 Cuvee le Bec
Complex, nuanced, and layered, this is a wonderful 20th anniversary release of the Cuvee le Bec. More Syrah heavy in this vintage, the wine shows off layered fruit across the black, blue, and red fruit spectrum, with plenty of pepper and spice plus an additional complexity of violets and licorice. Tremendous mouthfeel and great balancing acidity round out this beautiful vintage of Cuvee le Bec. Crafted with a blend of 47% Syrah (Purisima Mountain Vineyard), 35% Grenache (Purisima and Winery Estate Vineyards), 11% Mourvedre (Purisima Mountain Vineyard), and 7% Counoise (Purisima Mountain Vineyard).
- Drink: 2019 — 2030
- Cases Produced: 3,889
- AVA: Santa Ynez Valley
2017 PMV Grenache Block Eight
A milder growing season has delivered a Block Eight Grenache that is very reminiscent of the 2015 vintage. Bright and complex, the wine has great depth and purity of flavor and aroma. Filled with white pepper, nutmeg, clove, and, of course, plenty of raspberry and strawberry fruit, the 2017 Block Eight is very lifted and pliant across the palate, with a long finish and fine-grained tannins. This wine will benefit from a little additional cellaring for 6 – 9 months and will drink beautifully for the next 10 – 12 years. Crafted from 100% certified Biodynamic Grenache grapes.
- Drink: 2019 — 2031
- Cases Produced: 373
- AVA: Ballard Canyon
2017 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Clone #383 Syrah
Usually reserved for the Block Six Syrah bottling, Clone #383 is a unique look at this special area of Purisima Mountain Vineyard. Showing more pepper, earth, and game than our Block Six or Purisima Mountain Syrah, the #383 is deep and rich yet very elegant. This clone always has very good acidity which keeps the wine fresh and lively, carrying the complex flavors through a very long finish. Drinking fantastic now, the wine should age well for the next 15+ years. Crafted from 100% certified Biodynamic Syrah grapes.
- Drink: 2019 – 2034
- Cases Produced: 255
- AVA: Ballard Canyon
