2020 Spring Wine Releases
Posted: May 12, 2020
We release five new wines each quarter, three of which are produced in limited quantities and are only available directly from our Los Olivos winery.
The five wines are first shared exclusively with our Wine Club members and are then made available to the general public the following quarter. These exceptional, small production wines often sell out quickly. Joining our Wine Club ensures your allotment and allows you to order more to enjoy in the years to come.
Sharing our wines for the first time after the years of hard work and dedication to making them is exciting. We hope you enjoy drinking these wines as much as we enjoyed crafting them! Below are the five wines we released in May 2020.
2018 Santa Ynez Valley Chenin Blanc
We are really excited to release our first Chenin Blanc! Grown on the sandy slopes between the oil rigs out on Foxen Canyon, from 25+ year old vines, the wine is bright and lifted with aromas and flavors of lemon verbena, quince, lime, honeydew melon, and mineral that are complex and long on the palate. Texturally there is a nice balance of roundness and acidity creating a smooth mouthfeel with a vibrant finish. Drink this wine over the next decade or more!
Drink: 2020 — 2030 | Cases Produced: 150 | AVA: Santa Ynez Valley
Retail: $32
2018 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Grenache
The evolution of this wine continues with the release of the 2018 vintage. Now 100% Grenache made with 33% whole cluster fermentation, the 2018 shows the greatness of the vintage and the new stylistic direction of this longtime Beckmen favorite release. Beautifully crafted, the wine is highlighted by its complexity and balance with ripe red fruits, black cherry, bakers spice, and pepper aromas and flavors. The wine is drinking great now and should age effortlessly for the next 15+ years.
Drink: 2020 — 2035 | Cases Produced: 400 | AVA: Ballard Canyon
Retail: $55
2018 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Syrah
A slightly riper vintage than 2017, the 2018 PMV Syrah is loaded with blackberry and boysenberry fruits, chocolate, pepper, and PMV trademark gaminess in both flavor and aroma. Wonderfully rounded texture, with beautiful balance between all its parts – fruit, oak, tannin, acid and alcohol – the 2018 is another hugely successful vintage of PMV Syrah. Drinking very well upon release, the 2018 should evolve beautifully for the next 15 – 18 years!
Drink: 2020 — 2038 | Cases Produced: 1,600 | AVA: Ballard Canyon
Retail: $34
2018 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Clone #1 Syrah
2018 is a great vintage for Syrah and the Clone 1 really shines from the vintage. Big, broad, and powerful, the 2018 is built to last with a stunning array of gorgeous Syrah flavors and aromas including bacon fat, cured meats, blackberry, plum, chocolate, and smoke. The wine is big with a fuller mouth and bigger tannins than the PMV Syrah, and will benefit from some short term aging putting the drinking window from 2022 – 2035+. A really wonderful vintage and release of the Clone 1.
Drink: 2020 — 2035+ | Cases Produced: 350 | AVA: Ballard Canyon
Retail: $65
2018 EXP Purisima Mountain Vineyard Whole Cluster Syrah
For those of you who attended the grape stomp harvest event we held in 2018, this is the wine we produced from those grapes! A really fun and different style of Syrah from Purisima Mountain, as the grapes were harvested a bit early and were made with 100% whole clusters. The wine has intriguing aromas and flavors of pepper, spice, tart blackberry fruit, dried herbs, and a hint of white chocolate. Not as big and heavy in the mouth as some of our other Syrah wines, with a leaner frame and higher acidity, the wine is showing great now and should be enjoyed over the next 5 – 7 years.
Drink: 2020 — 2027 | Cases Produced: 100 | AVA: Ballard Canyon
Retail: $30
