    The 2019 Syrah Purisi­ma Moun­tain Vine­yard Clone #1 is a super-ele­gant wine that bal­ances Bal­lard Canyon rich­ness with a good deal of finesse. Red/​blueish fruit, mint, laven­der and spice are all pushed for­ward. The 2019 was done entire­ly with destemmed fruit, yet it has ter­rif­ic bright­ness and ener­gy. Time in the glass brings out the aro­mat­ics and the red­der tonal­i­ties of fruit.

    Com­ing all from a sin­gle clone of Syrah plant­ed in Bal­lard Canyon, the 2019 Syrah Clone 1 Purisi­ma Moun­tain Vine­yard sports a sat­u­rat­ed pur­ple hue as well as a rich, pow­er­ful bou­quet of black­ber­ries, blue­ber­ries, ground pep­per, and vio­lets. It’s not the most aro­mat­ic Syrah out there, but this pup­py pops on the palate, offer­ing full-bod­ied rich­ness, a live­ly, juicy, ele­gant mouth­feel, loads of mid-palate den­si­ty, and a great fin­ish. I expect it will devel­op more com­plex­i­ty with a year or three of bot­tle age and should keep for a sol­id decade. Matu­ri­ty 2022 – 2034.
