A classic vintage of the Clone 1 Syrah showing its trademark profile of smoky bacon fat, plum, blackberry, and black pepper throughout the aromas and flavors. Impeccably balanced, the 2022 Clone 1 has tremendous texture and presence on the palate with beautiful plush tannin structure that frames the wine nicely and carries the bold flavors on the very long finish. A great vintage of the Clone 1 Syrah that should age well for the next 15-18 years.

I loved the 2022 Syrah PMV Clone 1, a juicy, peppery, utterly classic Syrah from this team that has beautiful blackberry fruit, some peppery, meaty, gamey notes, medium to full body, a round, lush mouthfeel, and ripe tannins. It’s impeccably well-balanced, has classic character, and just begs to be drunk. It should keep for at least a decade.

The 2022 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard Clone #1 is a dense, potent wine. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, leather, spice and scorched earth convey tons of Ballard Canyon character. This fruit came in from October 1 to 7, well after the Labor Day heat spike had subsided. It was also entirely destemmed, an approach that’s quite successful here. Drinking Window 2024 — 2034.

Dark strawberry, fresh raspberry, toasted pecan and black pepper aromas make for a very complex nose on this clonal showcase from way atop the north end of Ballard Canyon. The palate is savory in tar and charcoal notes that give way to flavors of blackberry and cracked pepper. Firm tannins encourage patience. Drink 2026 – 2041.
