2023 Block Six Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard
Block Six was the first section of Purisima Mountain Vineyard to be farmed biodynamically starting in 2002 and is the highest elevation block in the vineyard featuring significant deposits of chalky limestone. These factors contribute to a wine that has consistently been our finest Syrah bottling.
Do the vintages of Block Six keep getting better every year? We say yes. The ‘23 Block Six is arguably the finest we’ve produced. Aged for 26 months in 66% new French oak, the wine screams Syrah, screams Block Six, and announces itself as one of the great Syrah wines made anywhere.
Lifted dark fruit (if there is such a thing), limestone, minerality, chocolate, pepper and spring flowers weave through the wine. Beautifully layered and textured, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity, the ‘23 Block Six is stunning today but will benefit from short-term aging. Best enjoyed between 2027 and 2043—or longer.
