2021 Winter Wine Releases

Posted: Feb 17, 2021

We release five new wines to our Wine Club members each quarter, four of which are produced in extremely limited quantities and are only available directly from our Los Olivos winery. One of the new wines is usually produced in larger quantities and is available in distribution across the country.

The five wines are first shared exclusively with our Wine Club members and are then made available to the general public the following quarter. These exceptional, small production wines often sell out quickly, so joining our Wine Club will ensure your allotment.

These are the five wines we released to our members in February 2021

2019 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Grenache Blanc

Green apple, citrus fruits, and lime zest aromas are rich and focused. The mouth is an interesting balance of broad texture and juicy acidity, with flavors of green apple, Asian pear, spice, and a pleasant herbal tone that finishes long on the palate. Best to drink the 2019 PMV Grenache Blanc on the young side over the next 3 – 5 years.

2019 Estate Grenache

A bit lighter in color than past vintages of this wine, the 2019 Estate Grenache does not lack in aroma, flavor, or structure. The cooler vintage in 2019 highlights more of the spice element in Grenache, with aromas and flavors of white pepper, bakers spice, pomegranate, strawberry, and a hint of vanilla. Textured and round, the 2019 has good acidity that carries the flavors on a very long finish. A wonderfully elegant vintage of this powerful wine, the 2019 Estate Grenache will age nicely over the next 12 – 15 years.

2019 Cuvee le Bec

With a little more Syrah in the blend in the 2019 vintage – 51% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 6% Mourvedre, 5% Counoise – the wine has a darker profile compared to the 2018 vintage. Black and blue fruits, licorice, violets, and pepper aromas lead the way in this outstanding vintage of Cuvee le Bec. A cooler vintage brings some fantastic structure and acidity, where the blackberry, dark cherry, licorice, pepper, and roasted herbs are complex and long on the palate. A terrific follow-up to the incredible 2018 vintage, the 2019 is in the same class and perhaps even a bit higher in quality. Drinking great now, the 2019 Cuvee le Bec will age beautifully over the next 12 – 15 years.

2018 TLB

The 2018 TLB has complex, powerful, and rich aromas of black fruits, graphite, wildflowers, savory herbs, lavender, and blue fruits. Plush and round in the mouth, the TLB has amazing depth, richness, and length on the palette. Flavors of plum, blackberry, licorice, tobacco, and more savory herbs have amazing persistence with a very long finish that lasts well over one minute. Fully integrated and ready to drink now, the wine will age effortlessly for 25+ years. Perhaps the best TLB wine we have ever produced (perhaps the finest wine we have ever bottled) from the now legendary 2018 vintage.

2018 EXP Aggregate

A blend of every red wine barrel we made in the 2018 vintage; the 2018 Aggregate is a knockout wine. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache are the main varieties in the blend with Mourvedre, Counoise, and Merlot making up a small percentage. The wine has complex aromas and flavors of black and red fruits, pepper, licorice, spice, and a cool floral character showing great richness and balance for this unique blend. One of the most fun EXP wines we make every year, the 2018 Aggregate is a highlight of the EXP wine program. Drink it now and over the next decade.
