2021 Syrah Own Purisima Mountain Vineyard

The second vintage of Own Syrah takes a step in a slightly different direction than the inaugural 2020 vintage wine. Looking to create a more savory style of Syrah from Purisima, we blended more of a Syrah selection we call BB into this vintage and less of the fruitier Estrella selection. Dark, gamey, and spicy, the 2021 vintage is incredibly balanced with a smooth, round mouthfeel and plush tannins that carry the blackberry, black cherry, chocolate, cured meats, game and pepper flavors on the long finish. Showing really well today, the wine will age for the next 15+ years.

Sitting somewhere between the Clone 1 and Block Six stylistically, the 2021 Syrah OWN Purisima Mountain Vineyard has pure darker berry fruits interwoven with notions of ground pepper, violets, and spring flowers. Very clean, varietally correct, and balanced, with medium to full-bodied richness and plenty of underlying tannins, it’s another gorgeous Syrah from this team that will keep for a solid decade.

Precise aromas of blackberry, purple flower and peppercorn arise on the nose of this bottling, which showcases own-rooted blocks. The palate is creamy in mouthfeel while also chalky in structure, offering dark, dense fruit, green herb and light pepper flavors.

The 2021 Syrah Own, here in its second release, is quite different from most wines in this range because of its strong aromatic signatures. Dark red cherry, lavender, rose petal, spice and blood orange infuse the 2021 with tons of complexity. The Own emerges from a parcel of own-rooted vine and is done with fully destemmed fruit. Drink 2024 — 2033.
