2021 Syrah Own Purisima Mountain Vineyard

The second vintage of Own Syrah takes a step in a slightly different direction than the inaugural 2020 vintage wine. Looking to create a more savory style of Syrah from Purisima, we blended more of a Syrah selection we call BB into this vintage and less of the fruitier Estrella selection. Dark, gamey, and spicy, the 2021 vintage is incredibly balanced with a smooth, round mouthfeel and plush tannins that carry the blackberry, black cherry, chocolate, cured meats, game and pepper flavors on the long finish. Showing really well today, the wine will age for the next 15+ years.

    Sit­ting some­where between the Clone 1 and Block Six styl­is­ti­cal­ly, the 2021 Syrah OWN Purisi­ma Moun­tain Vine­yard has pure dark­er berry fruits inter­wo­ven with notions of ground pep­per, vio­lets, and spring flow­ers. Very clean, vari­etal­ly cor­rect, and bal­anced, with medi­um to full-bod­ied rich­ness and plen­ty of under­ly­ing tan­nins, it’s anoth­er gor­geous Syrah from this team that will keep for a sol­id decade.

    The 2021 Syrah Own, here in its sec­ond release, is quite dif­fer­ent from most wines in this range because of its strong aro­mat­ic sig­na­tures. Dark red cher­ry, laven­der, rose petal, spice and blood orange infuse the 2021 with tons of com­plex­i­ty. The Own emerges from a par­cel of own-root­ed vine and is done with ful­ly destemmed fruit. Drink 2024 — 2033.
