2021 Spring Wine Releases

Posted: May 11, 2021

We release five new wines to our Wine Club members each quarter, four of which are produced in extremely limited quantities and are only available directly from our Los Olivos winery. One of the new wines is usually produced in larger quantities and is available in distribution across the country.

The five wines are first shared exclusively with our Wine Club members and are then made available to the general public the following quarter. These exceptional, small production wines often sell out quickly, so joining our Wine Club will ensure your allotment.

These are the five wines we released to our members in May 2021

2020 Santa Ynez Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Very outgoing aromas of lemon blossom, lime, grapefruit, lemongrass, and dried herbs are focused and complex. The mouth is round yet fresh with lemon rind, grapefruit, saline, citrus fruits, and a touch of apple with good length and great acidity. We hurried to pick the grapes before the massive heat spikes during September of 2020, so the 2020 SYV Sauvignon Blanc is a little less ripe than previous vintages. The finished wine retains great balance and freshness and is ready to drink now!

2019 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Grenache

Complex aromas of strawberry, bakers spice, garrigue, candied red fruits, and a floral note are intense yet lifted. Plump and round in the mouth, with rich, mouth-filling flavors of red fruits, spice, strawberry, grenadine, and roasted herbs, the 2019 PMV Grenache has wonderful balance. Fine tannins and a long finish with more strawberry, spice, and candied red fruit flavors round out this incredible vintage of PMV Grenache, which was made with 33% stem inclusion. Drink now and over the next 12 – 15 years.

2019 EXP La Finca

As usual, this 49% Grenache, 27% Syrah, and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon blend overdelivers in quality and complexity. Aromas of jammy fruit preserves, strawberry, cherry, and a touch of blue fruits, leap out of the glass. Balanced, textured, and round, this vintage is broad on the palate featuring fruit pie, strawberry, and cherry preserve flavors. The finish is long and continues to develop with notes of blue fruits and some earthiness (from the Cabernet). A real head-turner vintage of La Finca, the 2019 drinks very well now and will continue to evolve over the next decade or more.

2019 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Syrah

The cool 2019 growing season produced a very savory vintage of PMV Syrah. Cured meats, game, roasted earth, pepper, blackberry, and coco highlight the aromas of the 2019. Elegant and rounded on the palate (reminiscent of the very successful 2015 vintage), the mouth shows off sweet black fruits, dark chocolate, game, mocha, and pepper with fine tannins that carry the flavor through the very long, savory finish. A bit young and tight upon release, the 2019 should be decanted or aged for the short term and will age beautifully for the next 15 – 18 years or longer.
